Lakshminarayan Temple

The Lakshminarayan Temple caters to the needs of the Hindu devotees of North Indian descent. Many devotees came from the Northern states of India such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Bengal and Gujarat. Many of the settlers worked as herdsmen, dairymen and moneylenders in Singapore.

The temple was built in 1960. The North Indian community did not have a dedicated place of worship till then. The land was purchased from several residential units and was converted into a temple. This may explain its ‘box’ like appearance as opposed to the other more ornate temples in the area. The temple has been upgraded continuously to better meet the needs of its devotees over the years. Today, the temple serves the spiritual needs as well as a hub for the North Indian Community. Visitors are free to observe the various ceremonies but guided tours are only provided in the morning.
