Sri Veeramakaliamman(‘The Courageous Mother Kali) Temple was built in 1855 and is considered one of the oldest temples in Singapore. This temple was built because many Indians settled or resettled in the area(from the Chulia Street Area, the original area designated for Indian settlers under the Jackson Plan) The temple served as a hub for religious and social activities for the Hindus living in the area.

 

The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Kali who is a destroyer of evil and the protector of the good. The temple also houses 13 other deities

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The temple was renovated in 2014 with craftsmen from Tamil Nadu brought in to assist in the renovations. Founded in 1855, the temple has new 6-storey building.
